Good to Know

Frequently asked questions

Common questions before your dive.

How does a dive work?

Unless requested otherwise, we only do beach dives right from Fort Lauderdale. We do a single dive: we swim out from the beach and are typically underwater for one to two hours, or however long it takes until we start getting low on air or you're uncomfortable for any reason.

How deep do we go?

Max depth is about 25 feet, but most of the time we're only in about 15 feet of water.

How far do we swim out?

The lobster reef I like to fish is about a quarter mile off the beach. The first reef line is much closer, roughly 100 yards off the beach.

Do I need to be scuba certified?

Yes. For lobstering I only dive with certified and relatively experienced divers. Lobstering is a hard skill to be good at if you aren't already a strong scuba diver, so all divers must be Open Water certified with proof of certification.

Do you offer night dives?

Yes, night diving is available on request. It can be a great time to find lobster.

Do you offer snorkeling tours?

I do offer snorkeling tours on request. That said, I don't like to snorkel or free dive for lobster without a boat to protect us from other boat traffic, so we'll talk through the safest way to run it.

What exactly is this service?

Think of me as your professional dive buddy, there to help you find and catch the most lobsters possible. I'm an expert guide who knows where to find lobster and how to catch them better than anyone in the area.

Do you provide gear?

If you need gear, I can help coordinate rentals through my affiliated dive shop, Underseas Sports. Just let me know what you need when you book.

What do I need to go lobstering?

Every diver needs an FWC saltwater fishing license with the required lobster permit, available at gooutdoorsflorida.com. Spiny lobster season runs August 6th through March 31st, the max bag limit is 6 lobsters per diver, and we follow all legal minimum size limits.

How do I book?
